Microsoft 365 mode

Outlook.com, Hotmail and Microsoft 365 / Exchange Online work and school mailboxes through Microsoft Graph.

What Microsoft 365 mode is

In Microsoft 365 mode Metre2 Mail reaches your mailbox through Microsoft Graph, Microsoft's own connection to Microsoft 365 and Outlook.com mail. It works even where an organisation has switched IMAP off, and your Microsoft 365 categories come with it. The account shows GRAPH beside its address.

  • Folders, flags, moving, archiving, junk, search, drafts, sending (your Sent copy is saved by Microsoft), undo send, send later and the Outbox all work as they do on IMAP.
  • New mail is checked every minute.
  • Rules and blocked senders run on new mail in the Inbox.

Setting it up

Add the account as usual: Microsoft mailboxes - Outlook.com, Hotmail, Live and work domains whose mail is at Microsoft - are set up in Microsoft 365 mode. Press Sign in with Microsoft and sign in on Microsoft's own page.

  • Advanced: use IMAP instead is there if you'd rather use IMAP.

Switching an IMAP account

Settings > Accounts > Edit > Switch to Microsoft 365 mode. Microsoft asks you to sign in once more; your mail is then fetched again. Drafts on this PC and the Outbox stay; pins on this PC are cleared.

  • If your organisation has switched IMAP off, Mail says so in the folder pane and offers the switch in one click.

Work and school accounts that need approval

Some organisations only let their people use apps an administrator has approved. If Microsoft asks for approval, your IT administrator can approve Metre2 Mail once for the whole organisation.

CategoriesPRO

With Mail Pro, categories in Microsoft 365 mode are your mailbox's own: a category you make in Metre2 Mail appears in your Microsoft 365 mailbox, and one made there appears in Mail.

Good to know

The first sync brings the newest 1,000 emails in each folder; Get older mail from the server brings the rest. Pins are kept on this PC.
