How it works

Step by step

1

Scale from the title block

In the PDF tab choose Set Scale from Title Block. Takeoff Studio finds notes such as 1:100 @ A1 or 1/4" = 1'-0" and sets the page's scale in one click.

2

Check the paper size

If an A1 drawing has been saved at A3, it warns you and offers the scale at this size (1:100 @ A1 on an A3 page measures 1:200). Always check one known dimension.

3

Details at other scales

Choose Scales (W) and draw a region round a detail or viewport, then pick its printed scale or calibrate it. Everything measured inside it uses that scale.

4

Name the pages

Drawing Register reads each title block's sheet number, title, revision and scale. Accept them and they become your page names. Export the register as CSV.

5

Search the drawings

Press Ctrl+F to find a door number, a room name or a note on every page, and go straight to it.

Frequently asked questions

Does it read scanned drawings?

No. The title block scale, the register and text search use the text inside the PDF. A scanned drawing has no text to read, so calibrate it from a dimension. Takeoff Studio tells you which pages these are.

What does NTS mean?

Not to scale. A sheet marked NTS can't be scaled from its note - calibrate from a dimension instead.

What if a measurement crosses a scale region?

You get a warning and it's listed in Checks. It uses the scale where it starts.

Can I work in feet and inches?

Yes. In View Options choose Units for feet and inches, decimal feet, sq ft and cu yd, and calibrate from lengths such as 12' 6".

Are these free?

Yes - the title block scale, scale regions, the drawing register with CSV export, text search and imperial units are all free.
