How it works

Step by step

1

Cut a hole in an area

Select an area, rectangle or circle and choose Add cutout. Draw the hole inside it, or press B for a rectangle. The quantity becomes net everywhere - labels, totals and exports.

2

Choose the perimeter

By default the perimeter is the outer edge, for skirting or edge trims. Tick Perimeter includes cutout edges to add the edges of the holes, for nosings or upstands round a void.

3

Lay items at centres

Choose Spacing (J), pick Along a line or Across an area and type the centres - 400, 0.6 m, 16" or 2' all work. You get the count and, across an area, the total member length.

4

Times and slope

Set Times on any measurement for repeated rooms or floors, and Slope on a roof or ramp measured on plan - in degrees (30), as a ratio (1:2) or a percentage (15%).

Frequently asked questions

How is the slope worked out?

The true quantity is the plan quantity divided by cos(slope). Apply slope only to lengths that run up the slope; perimeters aren't slope-corrected.

Does Times work with deductions?

Times is positive only. Use Deduction for a negative quantity - the two work together.

Can I change the spacing later?

Yes. Change the centres, ends or direction in the Selection tab, or drag the points, and the count updates straight away.

Does a cutout move with its area?

Yes. Cutouts move, copy and copy to other pages with their area, and volume uses the net area.

Are these free?

Yes. Cutouts, Spacing, Times and Slope are all free in Takeoff Studio.
