Quantity takeoff to BOQPRO

Takeoff turns the model into lengths, areas and volumes by IFC type or by storey. Quantities come from the model's own quantity sets, are computed from the geometry where the model has none, and doors, windows and fittings are counted - and every row says which. Send the groups to the BOQ and each row keeps the IFC objects it came from.

How it works

Step by step

1

Check the model first

Run the free Quantity check in Views to see which elements carry quantities in the model.

2

Open Takeoff

Open the Takeoff tab and choose By type or By storey. Each group shows its count and its length, area and volume totals, with its main quantity as a badge.

3

See where each number came from

Every group and element says From model (Qto), Computed from geometry, Count only or Mixed sources. Check computed values before pricing: they come from the shapes, not the designer's quantity sets.

4

Send to the BOQ

Tick the groups and choose Send selected groups. Each becomes a BOQ row with its main quantity in m, m², m³ or nr to 2 decimal places. By storey, the storey becomes the trade package.

5

Price and export

In the BOQ tab type the rates: totals work out as you type. Export CSV, JSON or an HTML report - every row keeps the ExpressIDs and GlobalIds of its IFC objects, one click away in the model.

Frequently asked questions

Where do the quantities come from?

First from the model's IfcElementQuantity sets (Qto_ and BaseQuantities sets, matched on the quantity name), converted to metres with the project units. Where the main quantity is missing, it's computed from the element's geometry: volume from a closed mesh, wall area from volume and thickness, slab and roof area from the faces, length along the main axis. Doors, windows and fittings are counted.

Can I trust computed quantities?

They're labelled as computed in the takeoff and in the BOQ note, so you always know. They follow the modelled shapes - check them against the drawings before you price, as you would any measure.

Does it follow NRM?

Takeoff groups by IFC type or storey, not by NRM work section. The free BOQ template on the downloads page adds an NRM2 work section to each row and collects the bill NRM-style.

Does it work with several models?

Takeoff covers the main model. Load the discipline you're measuring as the main model.
