Measurement, shape, note, style, and editing tools used while marking up the drawing.
Length measures a single straight distance. Polyline measures connected segments. Area, Rect, Circle, and Arc calculate applicable quantities such as area, perimeter, circumference, radius, and segment lengths.
Notes are text objects. Double-click a note to edit in place, or select it to change text, font, size, bold/italic, foreground, background, and opacity.
Shift/Ctrl-click markups to select several. Move, duplicate, delete, align, distribute, group, and ungroup selected markups together.
Shapes use colour, thickness, opacity, fill, solid/dashed/dotted line type, style presets, default tool styles, and saved Tool Chest entries. Saved Tool Chest entries can be updated from the selected markup and imported/exported for team standards. Importing and exporting tool libraries needs Takeoff Studio Pro.
Right-click markups for command/context menu actions such as vertex editing, duplication, grouping, advanced geometry, and style actions.
Choose Find on the toolbar (or Find symbol in the command palette), then drag a box tightly round one symbol such as a socket, light fitting, door swing or manhole. Takeoff Studio searches this page, or every calibrated page if you tick All calibrated pages, and rings each match. Tick Turned 90°/180°/270° or Mirrored to catch symbols drawn the other way round. Move the Sensitivity slider to see fewer or more matches straight away, click a ring to remove a wrong match (click again to put it back), name the count and choose Accept all. The matches become one ordinary count markup per page, so you can edit, move or delete points afterwards and undo the whole thing in one step. Symbols already in a count are shown grey and not added twice. Cancel or Esc stops a search at any time.
Choose Room on the toolbar (or One-click area in the command palette) and click inside a room. Takeoff Studio finds the space enclosed by the drawing's lines and traces it to the inside face of the walls, straightening nearly square sides. The room is shown as a preview first: click inside it or press Enter to add it as an area, click another room to try that instead, or Shift-click more rooms to add several at once (tick Several rooms at once to do this without Shift). Shift-click a preview to take it out again; Esc clears the previews, and Esc again closes the tool. If the fill runs out of the room through a doorway or a gap in the walls it turns red and isn't added: raise Close gaps (it closes openings up to that width) and click again. Wall to wall (on by default) measures to the walls whatever is drawn in the room - furniture, kitchen units, baths and door swings - and goes straight across doorways; on a CAD drawing it uses the walls Auto walls finds (with its wall thickness setting), and on a scan the solid walls. Untick it to stop at every line instead. The rooms become ordinary area markups you can edit afterwards (tick Make rooms to add them as numbered rooms, ready for heights and finishes in the Rooms tab), and each Add is one undo step. It works on scans as well as CAD drawings, but needs the page calibrated.
Choose Walls on the toolbar (or Auto walls in the command palette). Set the range of wall thicknesses on the drawing (75 to 450 mm suits most plans; the page calibration converts it), then choose Whole page or Draw area and drag a box. Takeoff Studio reads the drawing's line work and finds walls as pairs of parallel lines that far apart, and draws each wall run along its centre line, joined at corners and junctions. Count doors finds door swings hinged on a wall; Count windows finds windows drawn as three or more thin lines in the line of a wall; Measure through openings carries the wall length across doors and windows (untick it to stop walls at openings). Click a wall, door (circle) or window (square) to leave it out, click again to put it back, then Accept all. Each wall becomes a polyline named with its thickness (e.g. Wall 100 mm), and the doors and windows become count markups, all as one undo step. Auto walls needs a PDF exported from CAD: scans and pictures have no line data to read.
