Takeoff Studio help

Getting started

The basic flow from opening a drawing to a measured, exportable takeoff.

New to Takeoff Studio? Start here.

1. Start a project

Use Load PDF or Library to start a project or reopen one. JPG and PNG drawings open too (each becomes a one-page drawing at full resolution), and you can drag a file onto the window. The drawing and its markups save together on your PC, and the last project reopens when Takeoff Studio starts.

2. Calibrate the page

Choose Calibrate, click the start and end of a known dimension, then enter the real length and unit.

3. Navigate the drawing

Use Pan, mouse wheel zoom, Shift+wheel horizontal pan, Alt+wheel vertical pan, page search/thumbnails, saved views, the minimap, auto-hidden canvas scrollbars, the top-right zoom/location readout, and I to collapse or restore the right pane.

4. Take off quantities

Use Length, Polyline, Area, Rect, Circle, Arc, Count, Spacing and Note. Markup tools are locked until the page (or a scale region on it) is calibrated. Areas can have cutouts; sheets with details at other scales can have scale regions (see Measuring Extras).

5. Edit markups

Select a markup to drag it, Shift/Ctrl-click for multi-select, use the draggable floating toolbar when enabled, or double-click a note to edit text in place. Press Esc to clear selected markups. Press Delete/Backspace while measuring to step back the last point, or outside measurement mode to delete the selected markup.

6. Review and export

Use PDF, Markups, Selection, Precision, Schedule, Rooms, Totals, Activity, Views, and Checks before exporting CSV, Excel, reports, images, marked PDFs, or a portable project package. Totals exports follow the active Group totals by setting. Exports need Takeoff Studio Pro; drawing images are free.

Walkthrough

A short walkthrough shows the first time Takeoff Studio opens. Reopen it with the button above or Show getting started walkthrough in the command palette.
