BIM Explorer help

Commands, Console and your data

The command palette, the Console event log and where BIM Explorer keeps your models.

Command palette

The command palette is the quickest way to find a feature without remembering which tab or toolbar it's on. Press Ctrl+K (or click Commands in the top bar), type what you want and press Enter.

  • Use it to jump to a panel such as BOQ, Compare, BCF or Console.
  • Use it to discover tools that are not always visible in the compact toolbar.
  • Press Ctrl+K to open it from anywhere, and ? or F1 for Help.

Console

The Console tab is BIM Explorer's event log. It shows load, storage, viewer and export messages in plain language, so you can see what happened if something goes wrong.

  • Use it after failed loads, slow model preparation or unexpected viewer behaviour.
  • Warnings are intended to explain recoverable issues without stopping the workflow.
  • Errors give enough context to decide whether to retry, use another file or tell us about it.

Where your data is kept

BIM Explorer keeps model data on your PC. The models you open, viewer state, BCF issues and BOQ rows are stored on this PC and never uploaded.

  • Keeping models on your PC keeps large models quick to reopen, and nothing is uploaded.
  • Removing BIM Explorer or clearing its data removes the models in the library.
  • Exports are how data leaves this PC: BCF, CSV, JSON, HTML, PDF and PNG.
