Desktop Publishing 1.1
5 November 2026
Opens .pub files, a calmer new look, and the things people used most in their old publishing software: tables, text effects, calendars and booklets.
Free for everyone
- Open .pub files made in Microsoft Publisher (Publisher 98 to Microsoft 365) on your PC, with a report of what was converted - free as a preview
- Coming from Publisher? A start panel and a help page show where everything is
- Tables: draw them with the Table tool (B), type with Tab, add rows and columns, merge cells and style the header row
- Text effects for headlines: shadow, outline, hollow letters, glow and 3D block
- 21 shapes, up from 6, including hearts, bursts, arrows in every direction, hexagons and chevrons
- A new free template: Event timetable
- A cleaner, lighter look: light by default, with dark mode in the ··· menu, and your pages stay on white paper either way
- Help in the app (··· > Help) and keyboard shortcuts (? or F1)
In Desktop Publishing Pro
- Edit .pub files and save them as Desktop Publishing files
- Calendars: a month to a page, twelve months, or a year planner on one page, with England and Wales bank holidays
- Booklet printing: pages two to a sheet in folding order
- Six more templates, 37 in all: month and year calendars, an 8-page folded booklet, a quarter-fold card and a table price list
Fixes
- Perfectly straight (horizontal or vertical) lines are drawn again - they could disappear
- Esc closes menus and the What's new card
