How it works

Ask questions about a PDF specification or contract on your own PC

PDF Context reads the text of the PDF you open, finds the passages that match your question and has a small AI model answer from them. The model runs inside the app on your PC, and each answer links back to the pages it used.

From first launch to first answer

On first use the app downloads its AI model (Qwen2.5 1.5B, about 1 GB). This happens once and the model is then kept on your PC.
Click Open PDF, or drag a PDF onto the window - a subcontract, a specification section or a tender report.
The app pulls out the text of every page and builds a search index of the document.
Type a question, or use a quick prompt: Summarise, Key dates, Payment terms or Termination.
Click a citation card under the answer to jump to that page and check the wording yourself.

Where the processing happens

Text extraction, document search and the AI answers all run inside the app on your PC. Your PDF and your questions are not sent to a server to be processed. The app does use the internet to download the AI model the first time, and it loads its PDF reader and AI engine from the internet when it runs.

Do I need to install anything to use PDF Context?

PDF Context is a native Windows app rather than a browser tool - download it free from the Microsoft Store.

Do I need an account to use PDF Context?

Not at all. PDF Context never asks you to create an account, and everything you enter stays on this PC. Registering is optional and only used to tell you about updates.

Who is PDF Context built for?

Anyone who needs quick, private answers from a long PDF - a spec, a contract, a report - without uploading it anywhere.

Is my PDF uploaded to an AI service?

No. The AI model runs inside the app on your PC, using your graphics card through WebGPU where it is supported, with a slower fallback where it is not. Your document and your questions are not sent to a server to be answered.

Can PDF Context read scanned PDFs?

It tries to. If a page has little or no text, the app runs English text recognition (OCR) on that page on your PC. Results depend on the quality of the scan, and text-based PDFs give the most reliable answers.

Does PDF Context work offline?

Not fully. It needs an internet connection to download the AI model the first time (about 1 GB) and to load its PDF reader and AI engine. Once downloaded, the model is stored on your PC and is not downloaded again.
