Lamplight Cue Club

Upstairs from the Lamplight Card Room, the lamp is lit over a green baize table and the regulars are waiting. 8-ball, Blackball, 9-ball, 10-ball, Killer and snooker in a lamplit 3D club, with tournaments, a league, Mabel's lessons and the regulars' trick shots. Play chips only, never real money. Free in your browser on a PC, tablet or phone, or as a Windows app - no account, no adverts.

Lamplight Cue Club, in practice

The club room, a frame of Blackball, snooker from above, one of Mabel's lessons, a tournament draw and a game of Killer.

Pool and snooker

8-ball, Blackball, 9-ball, 10-ball and Killer on the pool table; six-red and full fifteen-red snooker on the big table - with the real rules, from called pockets to free balls and the miss rule.

A lamplit 3D club

A green baize table under a warm lamp, in the same pixel-art style as the Card Room next door. Play from your own eyeline or overhead, and set how forgiving the pockets are.

Proper table physics

Spin, screw, stun and side, cushion bounce and throw between the balls. An aiming guide and predicted paths help while you learn - turn them off when you don't need them.

Nine regulars to beat

The same faces as the Card Room - Cecil, Otis, Ines, Mabel, Rufus, Pearl, Agnes, Winston and Dolores - each with their own game, and they stand round the room watching, cheering and groaning.

Tournaments and a league

A ladder to climb, nightly knockout tournaments for pool and snooker - up to the Lamplight Masters - and a nine-week league season against every regular.

Mabel's lessons and trick shots

Eight lessons from Mabel, from a straight pot to playing safe, and sixteen trick shots from the regulars, with stars for doing them first time.

Practice and a daily challenge

The line-up, Beat the clock, the long-pot ladder, and the same seven-ball challenge for everyone each day.

Play chips, never real money

Put chips on a match, a game of Killer or a tournament entry. They can't be bought or cashed out, and the house stands you more if you run dry.

The chip shop

Spend your winnings on table cloths, seven cues - up to The Dolores - and five sets of pool balls. Thirty-six trophies to collect and your best shots to watch again.

Friends and gamepads

Two players or a game of Killer for up to four on one device, and full gamepad support for playing from the sofa.

The TV camera

Switch to the broadcast camera and watch the balls run from a high, wide shot by the table, just like on the television.

Free, private, offline

No account, no adverts, nothing to buy. The whole club runs on your own device, in the browser or the Windows app, and your progress stays there.

How it compares to other pool and snooker apps

Most free pool games pay for themselves with adverts, or sell coins and cues for real money. Lamplight Cue Club does neither.

Frequently asked questions

Is any real money involved?

No. Chips are for play only. You can't buy them, cash them out or exchange them for anything, and if you run low the house stands you more for free.

Which games can I play?

On the pool table: 8-ball, Blackball (with ball in hand or the traditional two visits after a foul), 9-ball, 10-ball and Killer. On the snooker table: six-red and full fifteen-red snooker, with free balls, the miss rule and a re-spotted black.

Who am I playing against?

The club's nine regulars - the same faces as next door in Lamplight Card Room - from nervous Cecil to Dolores, who nobody beats twice. Each plays their own way, and you climb a ladder by beating them in turn. You can also play a friend on the same device.

I'm new to snooker. Will it help me?

Yes. Mabel's eight lessons cover straight pots, stun, screw, follow, cut shots, side, safety and playing for position, and you can turn on an aiming guide that shows where the cue ball and the first ball it hits will go.

Do I need to install anything to play?

No - play it straight from your browser, on a PC, tablet or phone, and add it to your home screen like an app. There is also a free Windows app in the Microsoft Store if you prefer an installed app.

Do I need an account or an internet connection?

No account, in either edition. The Windows app works fully offline. The browser edition needs a connection the first time it loads; after that the whole club is stored on your device and works offline too.

Where is my progress saved?

On your own device. Your chips, ladder place, trophies, tournaments and league stay on the device you play on - the browser edition and the Windows app each keep their own. In the browser, your chips are shared with Lamplight Card Room next door.
