Add a network scanner

For printers and scanners on your network that Windows hasn't set up. Most made since 2015 can scan this way (eSCL, also called AirScan or Mopria). The address is on the printer's screen or network settings page.

Can't find your scanner?

  1. Switch it on and wait a minute, then press the refresh button next to the scanner list.
  2. USB: use a port on the PC itself rather than a hub, and check Windows lists it in Settings › Bluetooth & devices › Printers & scanners.
  3. Network printer: make sure the PC and the printer are on the same Wi-Fi. If Windows hasn't added it, use Add a network scanner by address - most modern printers scan that way without a driver.
  4. Still missing? Install the scanner's driver from the maker's website (look for "WIA" or "full feature" driver), then restart Metre2 Scanner.
  5. Feeder says it's empty? Put the pages in face up (or as the scanner shows), squared up against the guide.

Scan from your phone

  1. Point your phone's camera at the code and open the link. Your phone needs to be on the same Wi-Fi as this PC.
  2. Tap Take a photo of a page for each page. They appear here straight away - straightened and cropped.
Waiting for your phone…
Nothing goes over the internet: the pages travel over your own network, and the link stops working when you close this window. If Windows asks whether Metre2 Scanner may use private networks, choose Allow.

Save as a profile

A profile keeps the scanner, paper, colour, resolution, clean-up, Pro options and where files go - one click for the paperwork you scan often.

Naming files automatically

{date}today, 2026-10-31
{time}the time, 1405
{n} {nn}1, 2, 3 … or 01, 02 … for each file in a split
{match}the first text on the page that matches Look for - e.g. DN-\d{5} finds DN-20451. Put brackets round the part you want: Order:?\s*(\w+)
{text}the first line of text on the page
{name}the name in the box at the top
{profile}the profile's name
{pages}how many pages the file has

{match} and {text} read the page with Windows text recognition, so they work best at 200 dpi or more. Use / to make folders, e.g. {match}/{date}.
